Pokhara
A Lakeside Resting Place
Whilst Pokhara is the third largest city in Nepal, the difference between it and Kathmandu has to be seen to be believed. The hustle and bustle of Kathmandu and the peace and quiet and above all else the tranquillity of Pokhara will come as a very pleasant surprise. If you arrive by plane the first thing you will notice will be the clear air and magnificent views of the mountains.
If you are going on the Poon Hill or Jomsom trek or have completed the Annapurna trail then you will probably stopover in Pokhara. The peaceful surroundings of Pokhara will give you the opportunity chill out for a few days before you move on. The sightseeing trips around Pokhara can take in a trip to Devis falls where you can see the river plunging through a narrow ravine.
The National Mountaineering Museum is a showcase for everything that you will have come to look and wonder at in Nepal. You will even be able to see for yourself the mysterious Yeti at the museum. It’s a great place to visit and you can easily spend half a day here.
Time spent on Phewa Lake or visiting the World peace pagoda high above it will give you a wonderful view of the mountains you have just passed through. The Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu ranges, each with peaks over 8000 m can be seen from Pokhara.
Then of course there is the shopping where you can get anything to do with trekking at a fraction of the cost back home and the bars and cafés where you can pass away a pleasant few hours watching the world go by.
