The time you spend in this city, the capital of Nepal will I am sure be remembered for a long time. It`s home to over 1 million people but it never seems to be that crowded. As a tourist you will probably stay in the Thamel district, it`s a place with a vibrant ethnic culture. Thamel also acts as the pre-base camp for mountaineers. It boasts a wide range of mountaineering gear shops, foreign money exchange booths, pubs, clubs and nightlife along with the innumerous travel lodges and guest houses.
Just two of the places you can vist are the Swayambhuna or Monkey temple and the Boudhanath Stupa
Swayambhuna, it is one of the most sacred sites of Buddhist pilgrimage in Nepal, second only to Boudhanath It is also known as the Monkey Temple. Visit and you will soon understand why.
The Buddhist stupa of Boudhanath dominates the skyline, located about 11 km (7 miles) from the center and northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu. The ancient Stupa is one of the largest in the world and well woth a visit.
